The field is arriving where the discipline already stood

A widely-shared video this week covered the Munich ruling on Google's AI Overviews and the Mississippi sanctions over fabricated legal citations. It reached, in its own register, the conclusion the Forgotten Lessons series is built on: the missing thing was never the technology. It was discernment, the trained judgement to tell sound output from plausible nonsense, and that can't be handed to the output. The guides exist to put those controls back within reach of small teams before the consequence lands, not after. The Munich ruling is under appeal and binds only in its own jurisdiction, but the reasoning behind it could apply just as well in any jurisdiction.

Video: “AI Lies Are Finally Getting Punished,” House of El – AI. youtube.com/watch?v=ehsq_0Cw6e4. An opinion essay; the framing and conclusions are the creator's. The underlying events are the Munich Regional Court ruling and the Mississippi sanctions order, both worth reading directly.
